Review of “The Band” | Review of “Learn Guitar in 30 Minutes”

Hey there, my name is Dan and if you want to discover the best online guitar lessons for beginners (acoustic or electric), I can help.  I’ve tried a number of the online guitar training sites since I began learning a few years ago.  If you’re short on time and just want the “nitty gritty” on my recommendations, here’s what you need to know…

Tip: Not all guitar training is created equally!

While the free videos from YouTube and free guitar TABs have their place, they do have significant disadvantages for the beginner guitarist.  The main issue with them is that they don’t provide a structured, step-by-step course that teaches you what you need to know, in the order you need to know it, to master the guitar efficiently.  Watching random YouTube videos can lead to confusion and make your journey as a budding guitarist much slower and more frustrating than need be because:

  • they are often inaccurate as far as the Key, notes and/or chords of a song
  • they are often incomplete (missing entire sections of a song like the solo, etc)
  • they are often not taught by amateur instructors
  • they can get you practicing poor techniques that require unlearning
  • the surrounding advertising can be distracting

My guitar journey progressed much faster with professionally-taught training that removed all those obstacles.

Your Top Training Options for 2016

#1 – Learn Guitar in 30 Minutes (aka “Rockstarter”)

While the title may sound a bit optimistic, I’ve bought this course myself (as I have all the trainings I review) and this is a great and inexpensive short course that will quickly teach you the basics and get you playing some beginner Rock songs fast!  This course was put together by a guitarist (“VØID“) who has toured with KISS so you know he knows his stuff!  In fact, it was during his tours with them that this course was developed (watch the video for more on this – I think you’ll find it as fascinating as I did!).  At just over ten bucks, it’s a small investment to ensure you will stick with learning the guitar so I highly recommend getting this course first.  Go through it.  Jam away on the practice songs.  See how you like going through these beginner tutorials.  After completing this course, you’ll have a good foundation giving you a head start for one of the more in-depth training programs (see #2 and #3 below) that will take you to the next level in your guitar journey.

  • Quickly learn the basics and start playing popular, easy songs fast!
  • You don’t have to invest a lot of money or time in this course to see if learning guitar is really for you.
  • There’s a money back guarantee if you decide it didn’t live up to it’s promises.
  • A foundation to make it easier to leap-frog into an in-depth course and go to the next level.
  • Definitely one of the best online guitar lessons anywhere.

#3 – Guitar Chord Kick-Start

I wish this nifty ebook had been around when I was first learning guitar.  Even now at this point in my guitar journey, I’m learning some new things thanks to stumbling upon this eBook.  So, wanted to be sure I shared it with you…

Guitar Chord Kick-Start Course - Learn Guitar Chords The Fast & Easy WayCheck out Guitar Chord Kick-Start…you’ll not only learn a ton of chords the fast and easy way, you’ll also be learning some music theory along the way and that makes a world of difference in how fast and how far you’ll progress in your guitar journey.

The author, PJ Bovee, has a whole new spin on learning chords.  I know if I had access to this book when I was a beginner, it would have made a drastic improvement in how quickly I learned, memorized, and began playing chords.  Seriously, why didn’t they ever think of teaching chords this way until now?

Between you and me, I think he should be charging more for it, but that’s his loss and your gain until he realizes how undervalued it is and raises the price.  You can still get it dirt cheap for now.

Solo Lessons For Beginners

“Soloing Essentials” by Super Guitar Licks

One of the things most guitarists aspire to is playing exciting, soul-stirring solos and lead.  The problem is a lot of people find it difficult to get started or feel that it’s just something that they won’t be able to excel at.  If that’s you, you’re in luck because there is now a FREE guitar soloing course that the guys over at Super Guitar Licks have created which makes learning how to play guitar solos and lead both fun and easier than you imagined.

It’s called “Soloing Essentials – 5 Licks Guaranteed To WOW Anyone“!  And let me just say, it wowed me the first time I saw this series of solo lessons.  I’m still amazed they are giving away this away free.  My favorite aspect of this course is that it breaks down and teaches you 5 new and unique licks that not only sound super cool, but are also fun to play!  With names like “The Snake” and “Wham-O-Rama“, you know you’re in for something special that will get attention when played!  The best part is that the instructor breaks down every movement in each lick and illustrates how to play them as if you wrote them yourself.

There’s also Tabs and a backing track to practice right along with the video lesson.  This is definitely one of the best “how to play a guitar solo” courses I’ve seen from all the ones I’ve checked out.  I rate it high for quality and ease-of-use.  If you’re looking for soloing tutorials that gently introduce you to playing lead, this is what you’re looking for.  Get started right now on developing your Soloing, Improvisation and Lead Playing skills with this free course.  I’m not sure how much longer they’ll keep this course free (yes, it’s that good), but as of the time of this writing you can still get it at this link: Free “Soloing Essentials” Course

If you have a bit more time and would like to read about my own guitar journey… A few years ago, I finally decided I wanted to take up the guitar and my dad, a life-long guitarist himself, became my guitar teacher.  A few times a week, Dad and I would meet in the evenings and he would give me personal guitar instruction.

How I Discovered The Best Online Guitar Lessons

Dad started out showing me the basic open chords (the so-called “Cowboy Chords”).  I struggled with getting my fingers into all those necessary yet unnatural positions, the sore fingers, the frustration.  It was hard.  As determined as I was, there were times I questioned whether I had what it takes to get anywhere with it.  I thought my fingers must be too small but dear ol’ Dad assured me that wasn’t the case.  He explained that everyone goes through this when they first start learning guitar.

Dad was right.

After awhile of learning from Dad, I realized I was without excuse.  While my hands may be on the smaller side, my fingers were certainly long enough.  Nor did the other excuses I had given myself carry any weight.   The real question was no longer whether I could do it but, rather, how bad did I want it?  It was clear it would require applying myself on a regular basis – and enduring some pain – if I was to get to where I could start playing some of my favorite songs. I kept at it.  We continued my training.  Dad’s encouragement no doubt went a long way towards helping me overcome my self doubt.  In addition to his own coaching, he had given me a couple “learn guitar” books that were helpful.

But then one day it all came to a halt.

I know Berklee College of Music also offers online guitar courses, but as I’ve not taken any of them, I can’t vouch for them.
